PCI DSS compliance for Philtone

Philtone is committed to maintaining the highest level of professional and ethical standards in the conduct of its business and have recently achieved PCI Data Security for their customers and their own online solutions
Philtone is certified as in compliance with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) endorsed by Visa, MasterCard and other leading schemes. PCI DSS certification has been achieved in September 2011 by Philtone, and the company intends to successfully maintain certification, through extensive quarterly audits performed by Security Metrics, a third party qualified security assessor from the PCI Security Standards Council.
According to Rob Munro, Technical Operations Manager, “The PCI Certification strengthens our commitment to protect our customers ‘sensitive data’, and gives our clients the added assurance that payment card information processed by Philtone is fully protected, using the highest data security controls in line with the PCI DSS 12-point framework”
PCI DSS was created by the founding payment brands of the PCI Security Standards Council (Visa, MasterCard and other leading schemes) to develop a set of comprehensive requirements for enhancing payment account data security and to facilitate the broad adoption of consistent data security measures on a global basis. PCI DSS is a multifaceted security standard that includes requirements for security management, policies, procedures, network architecture, software design and other critical protective measures. The core of PCI DSS is a group of principles and accompanying requirements, around which specific elements of the DSS are organised. These are:

  • Build and maintain a Secure Network
  • Protect Cardholder data
  • Maintain a Vulnerability Management Program
  • Implement strong Access Control Measures
  • Regularly monitor and Test Networks
  • Maintain an Information Security Policy

Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS)
The PCI DSS, a set of comprehensive requirements for enhancing payment account data security, was developed by the founding payment brands of the PCI Security Standards Council, including American Express, JCB International, MasterCard Worldwide and Visa Inc. International, to help facilitate the broad adoption of consistent data security measures on a global basis.
PCI DSS is a multifaceted security standard that includes rigorous requirements for security management, security policies and procedures, network architecture, software design and other critical protective measures. PCI through Qualified Security Assessors (QSAs) conduct regular audits on Philtone to assess our level of compliance with the standards.

Successful Philtone Open Day: A Business Live Event in Bristol

Around 100 businesses and industry people were invited to our Philtone open day event in Bristol on the 6th May. Celebrating the commissioning of new litho and digital presses and web to print solutions. The Philtone team also presented customers with a number of ideas on how to take advantage of new and existing technologies.

Added value through workshops
Attendees benefited from a range of seminars from Xerox, Donald Murray and Heidelberg. One of them was delivered by technical experts from Xerox and designed to help visitors deepen their knowledge of digital print and the opportunities it represents. Attendees were also able to create their own personalised documentation and shown benefits of branded web to print sites and online submission and tracking of production via the web.

Specialist media
Offering a wide range of media brands, Philtone’s event enabled visitors to see the latest additions to the portfolio of leading paper merchants Donald Murray Paper and Xerox Consumable Supplies. Representatives of each brand offered inspiring ideas on how to deliver complete solutions and a broader scope of products for customers to increase profitability. Donald Murray was able to discuss and show how a range of materials including 9lives, an FSC certified paper with a 55% recycled fibre content and on press Club Silk, a carbon balanced paper was shown. This paper ensures customers can show a commitment to tackling environmental issues. The production of Club Carbon balanced paper has a measured value for carbon intensity through the production process and an equivalent carbon credit (offset) has been purchased.

Xerox showed new ranges of Nevertear material a waterproof and tearpoof polyester paper without CFCs, chlorine or other halogens and Digiboard, 210gm packaging boards, pre-creased, partially cut and perforated packaging boards for promotional products and point of sale including Tent Cards, Show Cards, Pillow Packs, Mug Boxes etc.

Hardware demonstrations

Throughout the event, visitors were able to experience live product demonstrations of the new Heidelberg CX102 with representatives from Heidelberg showing quick make-ready and running of the new press and demonstrating measured colour consistency meeting ISO 12647 colour standards using inline spectrophotometers on press.

Explains Steve Spencer, Philtone’s Sales Director: “We’re delighted with the number of visitors that attended the open house, a clear indication of the value that these events offer the industry. All attendees commented about the importance of gathering industry information and having direct interaction with product and industry experts. From interactive workshops, live product demonstrations and practical expert advice, visitors went away with a number of ideas on how to make the most out of new and existing equipment to maximise the opportunities.”

A prize draw has taken place with all attendees to the open house entered into a competition and Philtone are pleased to announce the winner drawn was Mr Luke Tamblyn from Epoch Design.

Chemfree – saving 960 Bathtubs of Water and 90 Canisters of Chemicals?

The new “Thermal Plate Chemfree 101” used by Philtone makes the CtP process not only safer, but also eco-friendlier. At 1,200 plates per week in the 3B-format, the equivalent of 960 bathtubs of water can be saved every year with this new thermal printing plate.
Non-chemical plates are catching up fast, because they require far less resources than conventional offset plates: a company that images roughly 1,200 plates a week in the 3B-format can reduce its annual water consumption from nearly 132,000 to almost zero litres. At the same time, it can go down to twenty-five percent of its previous chemicals and waste and one third of its original energy consumption. “With the Thermal Plate Chemfree 101, which is more productive and safer to use than the previous model, we want to make it far more attractive to switch to eco-friendlier prepress processes,” says Peter Tix, head of the Heidelberg Consumables Division.
